Forest School Development

Forest School Development

An exciting project during 2013/14 was the Forest School Development.  The Peterborough School is fortunate to have an onsite woodland area where all activities take place.  Forest School aims to develop and enrich pupils' personal, social and emotional development whilst promoting an enjoyment of learning outside the classroom. The School is committed to the importance of enabling all pupils to experience the world beyond the classroom as an integral and essential part of their education.

In the first year, pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will have weekly Forest School sessions. The second phase will be sessions for Key Stage 2 classes. Pupils will build up their Forest skills gradually by learning about the flora and fauna and adapting to learning in the outdoor environment. As confidence grows the use of forest tools such as bowsaws, sheath knives and billhooks will be integrated into sessions. Making and cooking on open fires and shelter building are exciting activities that we build towards.
