Year 9 pupil, Kathryn Smyth, has won a Merit in the international mathematics competition, The Grey Kangaroo.  A Merit is the highest level which is awarded in this competition in which a total of 3 million students participated.  A rough calculation shows us that Kathryn came in the top 2.5% of the 30 million people who took part worldwide in the intial competition.  More impressive still is that the competition is open to students up to Year 11, so only being in Year 9 means that Kathryn was one of the youngest participants!  Warmest congratulations go to Kathryn on this great achievement.
