New Head announcement

New Head announcement

The Peterborough School has announced the appointment of Sam McCormick as its new Head from September 2026.

Speaking about his appointment, Mr McCormick said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as the next Head of The Peterborough School. From my very first visit, I felt a strong sense of what makes this school so special: a community where relationships genuinely matter and where pupils are known, supported and encouraged to be the very best version of themselves.

“The School is one I have long admired and its core values of Family, Ambition, Character and Excellence reflect exactly what I believe education should be about: high expectations combined with deep humanity.”

Mr McCormick succeeds Adrian Meadows, who after 18 years of exceptional service as Headmaster, will take on the newly created role of Executive Principal. In this position, Mr Meadows will focus on strategic leadership and financial oversight, continuing to play a vital role in shaping the future of the School.

Mr McCormick brings a wealth of experience from across the independent and state sectors. Originally from Suffolk, he read Politics and Philosophy at the University of York before completing his teacher training. He began his career in London schools and later completed an MA in Leadership at UCL’s Institute of Education.

In 2016, Mr McCormick was appointed Head of Sixth Form at Sir William Perkins’s School in Surrey, before moving to Stamford School in 2019 as Deputy Head (Academic). More recently, he has held a senior leadership role within a large diocesan multi-academy trust in Lincolnshire. This breadth of experience has given him a deep understanding of what makes an excellent, values-led school.

“As an all-through school, The Peterborough School offers something truly special. It is a place where children grow not only academically, but also in confidence, character and kindness from their earliest years through to Sixth Form. I am excited to build on these strong foundations and to work closely with pupils, parents, staff and governors to ensure the School continues to flourish,” he added.

“I look forward to working with Adrian as he moves into the role of Executive Principal; it is a real privilege to be entrusted with the leadership of a school that means so much to its community.”
