The Westwoodians' Association

What is it?

The Westwoodians’ Association includes all those who have ever attended Peterborough High School; boys and girls who were at school when the school was at Park Road, between 1895 and 1935, and any one who has attended since the school moved to Westwood House in Thorpe Road.

The Association was founded by Mrs. Belgion, the Headmistress in 1947, when the school was known as 'Westwood House', and the association was the 'Westwood House Old Scholars’ Association'. While the not entirely attractive name, 'Old Scholars', has long since been consigned to history, the association retains its links to Westwood House in its name, which is celebrated by the distinctive Westwoodians’ logo of the grounds’ most beautiful cedar tree. The school reverted to its original name of 'Peterborough High School' in 1991 but the Association’s name remains unchanged, just as we continue to enjoy our wonderful situation at Westwood House.

The Headmaster, Mr. Adrian Meadows, serves as the President and the day to day running of the Association is undertaken by the Secretary and a Committee of Westwoodian volunteers.

Who belongs to it?

Today, Westwoodians range from elderly and prestigious ladies and gentlemen, who recall the original Peterborough High School in the town, to those who are busy in high-powered jobs, or domestic life, who talk fondly of happy days at 'Westwood', to those young women and men currently at University, or launching their careers, who love to come back to 'Peterborough High'. All are very welcome and are encouraged to join in the activities of Westwoodians.

 The Annual Reunion

Each year there is an Annual Reunion for all Westwoodians and their families and friends.  The Reunion currently takes the form of a Chapel Service, followed by a buffet lunch. In May 2009, we followed this with lawn games which proved very popular and gave everyone a chance to participate. Tours of the School were also available after lunch and for those who have not visited for some time this offers the chance to see the many and varied changes that have taken place over the year.  This format has proved very popular, with attendance increasing year on year.  Each year our honorary guests are those who left the School five years previously, so in 2010 we look forward to welcoming the 'Class of 2005' as our honorary guests.

In 2003, the School hosted a reunion specifically for the Class of 1960 and celebrated the birthdays of Mrs. Jane Bowgen and her friends.  This group has been meeting every ten years at School but decided to return in 2008 after just five years and we were delighted to welcome a group to the 2008 Reunion of that year.

The date for the next Reunion is Sunday, 13th June, 2010. Further details and a registration form will be available nearer the time.

The Westwoodians' Newsletter

There is an Annual Summer Newsletter which is mailed free of charge to all registered Westwoodians.  The Newsletter will update you with news of fellow Westwodians and also carries current news of the Association and of life at Peterborough High School.  If you have not been in contact with the School for some time, the Newsletter is an ideal starting point.

Advertising in the Newsletter

For the first time in 2008, we were able to offer advertising space in the Newsletter and the revenue from this has helped support the production costs.  If you have a product or service you would like to advertise, or know of someone who might be interested, please contact the Secretary.
