The Nursery is set in a superb house within the extensive grounds of Peterborough High School.

We feel that it is important to have confidence in the care that your child receives.  This Nursery provides a happy environment where the needs of the parents and child are met.  The caring and qualified staff are committed to nurturing babies, toddlers and pre-school children in lively, caring and stimulating surroundings.

Outdoor Play

Our large outdoor area allows your child space for energetic play as well as providing the ideal setting for picnics and outdoor games.  The Nursery has just opened it's new Nature Garden, the third outdoor play space.

Our Staff

From Nursery Assistants to Managers, all our staff are carefully selected and are continually assessed, with regular opportunities for training and development.  We try to mix age and experience with youth and fresh ideas, so that your children benefit from the best care possible.  Most of the staff are qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or are working to this qualification.  All our staff undergo the relevant OFSTED and Police checks.

The Nursery employs a Nursery Manager and an Assistant Manger:  Pauline Bellamy and Gemma Hazel.  The Managers have clearly defined roles and provide valuable support to their staff, which enables them to plan, deliver and monitor the Birth to Three Framework and the Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Education

The Nursery advises parents by letter of the forthcoming planned activities.  Details of the curriculum plans are displayed on boards in each of the separate Nursery areas.  The planned activities are tailored to the age and ability of the child through PLODS (Possible Lines of Development).

Birth To Three Matters

Birth to Three Matters is a framework designed for Childcare Practitioners to support the learning of children under the age of three.  The framework identifies four main aspects which celebrate the competence of babies and young children and the inter-relationship between learning, development and the environment.  Each aspect has four components:  A Strong Child, A Skilful Communicator, A Competent Learner and A Healthy Child.

Foundation Stage Curriculum

The Early Learning Goals enable children to progress towards the Foundation Stage and prepares them for the National Curriculum, which begins at Year 1 in Primary or Junior School.

All children are supported by our Childcare Practitioners to develop their potential at their own pace.

The Key Worker system

Our Nursery provides a Key Working system; this gives your child a special adult to bond with during the important settling in period.  It also provides parents with an initial point of contact, as we appreciate that this can be an unsettling time for parents as well as children.

Through observations of your child, the Key Worker is in a position to tailor the group's curriculum to the unique needs of the individual child.  The Key Worker works closely with parents to ensure that each child is supported in reaching his or her full potential.

It is also the Key Worker's responsibility to organise the chid's work and record the observations in the child's personal folders.

The children have the opportunity to take home their folders annually.  There are also Parent/Key Worker consultations during the spring, when parents are invited to discuss their child's present and future development with their Key Worker.

Nursery Themes

Throughout the year the Nursery selects a different theme on which to base key activities and visits for children in the Pre-school and Toddler Rooms.  The theme is carried through both play and learning activities.
