Senior Curriculum - Geography

Geography is going places!

This is certainly reflected by the Geography Department at Peterborough High School. Geography is studied by all students in Years 7,8 and 9 and is an option subject in Year 10. It is a very popular area of study and is frequently selected by the majority of pupils at GCSE, many of whom follow it through to AS and A2 levels.

An additional subject, ‘Travel and Tourism’, is offered to Years 12 and 13 and is examined at AS and A2 Level.

The department is staffed by experienced specialists. It is a vibrant and dynamic subject, incorporating many current news events into the curriculum. Fieldwork, crucial to the study of Geography, is high on the list of priorities. Every year group undertakes at least one fieldtrip. Issues investigated include Changing Land Use in Cities, Tourism Provision, the Changing Functions of Settlements, the Impact of Tourism on Physical and Human Environments, Ecosystems, Coastal Erosion, Deposition and Protection;the list is endless.

The examination specifications followed echo the stimulating nature of the subject and Decision Making Papers are undertaken by students at all levels. Geography is real and influences us in our everyday lives. Many of our students pursue further education courses in both Geography and in the field of Travel and Tourism.
