The aim of the course is to develop a critical appreciation of business organisations of all types, the markets they serve and the process of adding value.Students learn to analyse real-life business situations and recommend responses, which are cost effective and take into account ethical factors and the impact on all stakeholders.The department provides students with opportunities to visit well-known businesses so that they are able to apply theory to actual situations.
The AS course is a self-contained qualification which is also the foundation for further study.The first module is essentially outward-looking and focuses on how the external environment affects all business operations.The second and third modules are essentially internally focused and consider how organisations integrate the four functional areas of business (Finance, Human Resource Management, Operations Management and Marketing).
During the A2 course students complete an individually researched report which investigates and attempts to solve a chosen business problem.This is a valuable experience for students who can develop their own work in an area of personal interest.Students specialise in the ‘Further People in Organisations’ module and complete their study via this module which requires students to use all areas of study to answer problems identified from real business cases. |
