The Oaks Rooms

The Oaksl Room provides places for up to 35 children and covers the entire ground floor area of the Nursery.

Throughout the rooms, a variety of activities are available to encourage the three prime and four specific areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage, including book and home corners, sand and water areas, a well-stocked construction area, malleable play and mathematics.

Our patio doors are open throughout the day to allow the children to 'free-flow' on to our outdoor area.  The children can play on large physical equipment and construct using a variety of resources, such as giant bricks with pipes and guttering.  There is also a digging area where the children are encouraged to help grow vegetables and dig for mini beasts.  In addition, there is a sensory garden area and a grassed play area which incorporates large apparatus such as a balancing beam and bridge. We also have a mud kitchen for the children to enjoy.

Visits by professionals such as librarians, firemen and dentists are frequently arranged, and the Oaks children have the opportunity to go on a variety of excursions and to museums, parks and local attractions.

Music and gym sessions are provided as part of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and optional extra lessons are available in Ballet, Spanish and key Sports.

Our Oaks children frequently visit The Peterborough School to use the playing field, Chapel and Gym and they also take to the stage in the school Hall for our productions.

Our Oaks Room practitioners are highly trained, well qualified and experienced in specific areas such as Literacy, Mathematics and IT.  They are in close liaison with the Reception Class at The Peterborough School to ensure smooth transitions for the children moving up to the Preparatory School from the Nursery.

Our Oaks children have access to an excellent range of extracurricular activities.  On a weekly basis. On Fridays, the children make use of our Sports Facility where they divide into groups for team games, working together to get active alongside their key people.  The children may also attend the following activities in term time for an additional termly charge:

  • Key Sports
  • Ballet lessons
  • Spanish lessons

Ballet is taught by our Ballet teacher in the School Hall and Oaks room staff respectively.  Spanish is taught by our School Spanish teacher in a classroom in the Preparatory School and Key Sports is held in the Sports Hall with a fully trained sports coach.

During the Summer, we hold a Sports Day for the entire Nursery and parents are invited along with siblings and close relatives. This is usually a large and very successful event.

In addition, Oak’s children also take part in a Christmas Show each year in the school Hall and parents are invited to attend their performances. The children rehearse during Nursery sessions and the older children learn lines in preparation for future school performances.

Oak’s children will take part in Forest School sessions once a week in the Summer where they will learn to work together outdoors in the school's wooded area, building shelters and assessing risks with tree climbing with the school’s qualified forest school leader.
