The Sixth Form

ETHOS

The Sixth Form at PHS is a lively and friendly place where there is a strong feeling of comradeship and caring.  As we are a small school, every girl gets a chance to be fully involvedWe aim to provide the girls with a well-rounded education that will equip them with the skills and qualifications needed to enjoy a successful career and a fulfilled personal life.

ACADEMIC LIFE

PHS has a large range of AS and A2 subjects on offer (please see the Sixth Form page in the Curriculum section).  Sixth form groups are small which allows all girls to have individual help from the teacher.  The school encourages every girl to reach her full potential and the examination results reflect this success.  All girls study Critical Thinking to ensure a broad education is gained.

PASTORAL CARE

The Director of Sixth Form and the Senior School tutors ensure that girls are supported in all aspects of their school life.  The PSHE programme is designed to cover a wide rage of issues such as: study skills, preparation for Higher Education, current affairs, social issues and health awareness.

RESPONSIBILITIES

There are varied opportunities for girls to take on positions of responsibility including: Head Girl, Deputy Head Girl, Prefect, House Captain and Form Prefect.  Leadership training is an integral part of the Sixth Form and all girls have the opportunity to take a leading role.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

PHS offers a wide range of activities for the Sixth Form.  Sports include netball, hockey and tennis, and a choice of sport for recreation during the games period.  We have many talented musicians; there are numerous opportunities to participate in ensembles including Chapel choir. There are also plays and musical productions each year.  Most girls get involved in the Young Enterprise Scheme and many achieve the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Gold level.

FACILITIES

The Sixth Form has its own Common Room where girls can meet up, relax and use the kitchen. Study periods are spent in the Learning Resource Centre where students can further their studies and research. The ICT Suite is also available to all Sixth Formers for independent study during the school day and in the evenings.
