Equestrian Team

Peterborough High School has supported an Equestrian Team for five years.  The highlight of each year is our hosting of an Inter-schools’ Showjumping Competition, held in May, when over 40 teams compete in three classes at Sissons Farm Equestrian Centre, near Peakirk.

Experienced and extremely supportive parents organise and manage the event with help from officials from local Pony Clubs.  The event is also an opportunity for local traders and caterers to sell and promote their wares, all of which makes for a great day out for competitors, their parents and supporters alike. Designed to offer competitive experience to riders where there is often little other opportunity to compete, the Showjumping Competition has gone from strength to strength and we are delighted to say, has promoted riding amongst other schools in the area as well.  Schools which could barely muster one team in the early days are now entering three or four.  Word of the event has also travelled and teams now come from as far afield as Derbyshire and Bedfordshire to join us.
In addition to our Showjumping Competition, the PHS Equestrian team frequently compete at an event hosted by Kimbolton School where riders are randomly allocated different mounts so need to get to know a new pony very quickly. Although many of our riders have their own horses and ponies, the team organisers welcome pupils who enjoy riding or who have lessons but do not have their own.
